Augusta... home of the... well you know the rest, has spawned countless bands, but none that have had as much impact in so little a time as Chairleg. A band whose members came from several other prominent groups from the local area, Chairleg has amassed quite a collective resume. All together, they have played with musical acts in all manner of genres; such as Sevendust and Poison the Well. Beginning in 2004, Former guitarist Sprowls and "notorious for metal obsessions” drummer Brower teamed up with hard rock guitarist Lawhorne and experienced bassist Griffis to form what would be the enema a stifled town cried out for. Shortly after forming, they recruited Mercer; a solid lead with skill to rival the very best Augusta had to offer. While trying to define exactly what they were going to become, the band regrettably tolerated the lack of metal representation around home; and after very little time together hit the scene with every gun blazing. After only three shows in a two week period (with a meager 5 song set, mind you), the band was nominated for Best Lokal All Ages Band by Lokal Loudness; an accomplishment that was only the beginning. A year and a half later, the band released their first EP. 100 were pressed. 100 were sold in the first night. 100% of the t-shirt stock (which was provided to them solely on credit from the printer) vanished in 45 minutes. There is no end in sight as to what Chairleg will accomplish.
With relentless drum lines, complicated bass riffs, unforgiving guitar licks, and an unmistakable vocal onslaught; Chairleg seeks to educate everyone on the true purpose of metal: getting it all out in open. You won't see five guys on stage trying to scare everyone in sight. You will instead experience a positive experience through collective venting, a union of madness, a rally cry for those who just need to let go, but don't really want to dress in all black and infuriate everyone around them with unceasing complaints about how bad their life is... all this accomplished by five guys on stage having as much fun as the crowd. Relentlessness in rapture defines their stage presence.
Chairleg mixes metal and thrash; with styles ranging vocally from Corey Taylor to Max Cavalerra and guitars vaguely resembling Zakk Wylde and Dimebag Darryl, all the while trying to convey an intellectually stimulating message. Theatrics are not uncommon, but never expected. Five men walk on stage, act like boys, make boys men, then walk off to sign autographs for an hour... all after making not one dollar from the proceeds. In the end, the question one must ask is: What's the difference between you going home covered in fake blood, your own, or both?
