MINDEFECT

“Hard rock is the best way to describe it,” says Mindefect of its powerhouse sound. Mindefect’s music dodges easy genre classification, but that’s OK – it’s the sign of originality and creativity. The group soaks up influences from a diverse array of sources and therein lies part of the appeal of Mindefect’s music. “We’re too heavy to be rock but not heavy enough to be considered today’s metal.” The band’s style reaches across years of rock-n-roll territory, culling ideas from classic flavors, contemporary sounds and much of what is in-between. It’s a rich offering of aural excitement contained in a Mindefect performance. Not content to follow the yellow line down the middle of the road, these musicians have headed off the turnpike everyone else is driving, carving their own path, marking the way for tomorrow’s hard rockers. “Mindefect is everything from the arena to the garage, aggressive to progressive, funky and dirty bluesy, sleazy, sensual and emotional (but not emo), trashy and refined, energetic and jaded with hooks, headaches, harmonies, hairpin turns, hammering rhythm and, most importantly, soul without pretense.” No posing allowed; thus read the signs you see as you head into Mindefect’s strip of the musical world.

Purpose

Music’s fun. Hell, yeah! It’s party. It’s passing the time. It’s catharsis. It’s great for driving. Music is many things. But ultimately, it’s a direction, a focus for one’s being. It applies to the die-hard music fan as well as the devoted ones who make the music for the die-hard fans. And it’s no secret that the musicmakers are fans of the stuff themselves. Why else go into the business. (Unless it’s just for business, in which case, the whole point has been missed and the quality will suffer. Not so Mindefect …) “Music makes us feel alive. It gives us purpose.” And part of finding purpose is finding identity, marking off one’s place in the world and defending one’s individuality. That is vital for listener and artist alike. “Music keeps us from becoming another number in the huddled masses that works just to come home and zone out in front of the TV.” And it’s a funny thing. Because looking inside, finding that purpose … that’s also the place you look to find the source of music, the source of purpose. It’s a circle spinning always, alive, breathing, thriving. Music hits its pinnacle when it’s a labor of love pulled out from within – not surface varnish, not music for money without art. “Let the music write itself. Don’t try too hard with an idea. There’s nothing worse than music that feels or sounds forced.” The only force here, in the realm of Mindefect, is the music itself. And it is a force to be reckoned with.

The Artist at Work

Mindefect has seen two songs tapped for broadcast on 92.7 WLSR The Laser in Illinois. The band’s first CD – “Build Up to the Breakdown” – is nearing completion. “We’re just waiting for the final mix so we can send it off to get it pressed.” From therein, it’s gigging. Anytime, anywhere. Mindefect is currently working with A&R Select, the world’s leading independent artist development firm, based out of Los Angeles, CA.

“Mindefect is the chestburster in ‘Alien’ – to wit, the chest is genre boundaries and Mindefect is the monster.” – A&R Select
